First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Synopsys.
Staff Engineer
It was a full day process, with about 7 to 8 rounds total, that happened in person at the Synopsys office back in 2019. Each interview was an hour long, and we had an hour for lunch. They asked questions about algorithms, basic electronics, C++ coding, and algorithms specific to EDA.
- Can you explain the differences between KL and LM algorithms and discuss how one might select between them?
Senior Staff Engineer
Synopsys conducted 3 interview rounds. The last round involved a presentation of my work. Honestly, there wasn't much connection to my profile, and the interviewers seemed uninterested. The interview finished 2 hours early. My overall experience was really bad. They checked my CV in great detail, asking about every single aspect.
- How do you approach solving technical problems?
- Can you describe your thought process for tackling technical challenges?
Staff Engineer
Applied on the careers site, and got a call back after about two weeks. The whole interview process was pretty smooth and friendly. First up was a phone call with the hiring manager where we talked about my past project experience and the responsibilities of the role. Then, I had an onsite interview scheduled within a week. This consisted of four rounds, all technical. Three of those were really in-depth dives into Synopsys tools and how they work. The last round was with the head of the organization, and it involved questions about the company structure and the job itself.
- What is the difference between DEF and LEF files?
- How can one address issues with routing and cell congestion?
- Could you explain the difference between PBA and GBA?
