First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Synopsys.
Software Engineer Intern
it started with a phone screening where they asked me about the company and some basic C++ stuff. then, there was a virtual interview where I had to solve some DSA problems - specifically, binary tree inorder traversal using a stack and detecting a cycle in a linked list. They also asked about smart pointers. The last round was on-site, and it involved questions about my resume and an easy LeetCode-style problem.
- Can you tell me a bit about yourself?
- Could you walk me through your projects?
- What do you know about data structures and algorithms?
Software Engineer
First there was an HR call which was a phone interview where they asked behavior questions about my experiences and projects, it was about 1 hour. Then I had a virtual interview with the hiring manager where they introduced the team and talked about my past experience, that lasted for 3 hours. Finally, there was an onsite interview with the managers, it was split into 2 hours with RD doing a coding interview (writing code on paper) and 1 hour with the managers.
- Tell me about your experiences and projects.
- Can you tell me about your past experience?
- Solve a C++ coding problem similar to LeetCode medium, writing your solution on paper.

Synopsys really doesn't seem to care about candidates. I applied back in September 2024, and even after a bunch of interviews and chasing them up, I still haven't heard back as of February 2025. This ghosting after I put in time and effort is super unprofessional, especially for a big research place like this. It's a totally different vibe compared to other companies I've interviewed with that were way more serious.

- What are your technical questions?
