Senior Electrical Engineer
Got an email to set up a phone interview. Right after it started, they sent over a schematic for us to talk about. We chatted about the circuit parts and what they do. It wasn't a super hard circuit, but also not one I knew super well. The chat was pretty chill, but sometimes I wasn't sure if I was hitting the exact points they were after.
- I asked about the company's financial stability, which might have been the toughest question.
- I did not hear back after that (no further interviewing) but saw the exact same position posted as a contract position rather than a full time position 2 months later. It's difficult to know if I failed the technical interview or caused them to rethink the position. Maybe both.
Electrical Engineering Intern
I applied online through their website and heard back via email about a month later. The first step was a phone interview with an engineering manager. They showed me a circuit schematic, which they apparently use for all candidates, from interns to senior engineers. The schematic had many components like an op amp and transistor. I was asked about its overall function. The diagram was a bit tricky, so it's good to brush up on circuit schematics and fundamentals.
- Can you explain the function of an op amp follower?
Electrical Engineer
So the first round was a 30-min phone call with the hiring manager. It was pretty chill, mostly just chatting about my background and what the job is about. They asked a couple of basic technical questions about common active electrical components to check my fundamentals. Naturally, I got to ask questions too. The second interview was a week later, a 1-hour video call with two engineers from the team. We spent most of the time looking at some of my project portfolio and they hit me with technical questions about how things worked and how I could make improvements. It was a good time. I got the offer soon after.
- What modifications could be made to this circuit to enhance its reliability?
- What are your thoughts on improving the reliability of this circuit?
- Could you detail how a specific component of this project functioned?
