I applied in early June 2016 and then heard back for an interview. A recruiter from Synacor reached out near the end of June to schedule a time to chat. We eventually spoke in mid-July, as she had a vacation planned. After our conversation, I sent a follow-up email. She mentioned they were waiting for the new QA manager to start and had put hiring on hold until they were settled. It seems disorganized that they reached out when not ready. Here’s the email she sent: Hi, XXXX – Nice to hear from you – thanks for following up! At this point, we’re waiting for the new QA mgr. in XXXX to start, and have postponed hiring until he’s settled. Then, we need to assess with him exactly what we need on the team, and take it from there. Sorry to keep you waiting, but these things take time. If yours is the background he wants, then we’ll continue. We completely understand that you are talking to other companies about their opportunities….if we take too long and you accept another offer, let’s still stay in touch! Thanks – XXXX

The interview experience with Synacor was really something. It started with a preliminary phone call, followed by a phone interview with two senior technicians. After that, they invited me for an in-person interview at their Buffalo, NY location. I spent about 3.5 hours interviewing with approximately 10 people, which was pretty intense. The last hour was spent with the same two senior techs I spoke with initially. They asked some definition questions, some of which I didn't know. At the end, the HR rep mentioned I should hear back by Wednesday, the 25th. It's now February 28th, and I still haven't heard anything. I've tried contacting them by email and phone multiple times, and it seems like the HR rep is completely ignoring me.

The lead reached out on IRC about needing help. I sent over code I'd written, both public and personal, via email. HR got back to me about 3 weeks later to set up a same-day phone interview. The lead and another person interviewed me at the same time. They spent more time describing the job and joking around than asking questions. They seemed like really good people to work with, and I still feel that way after several months, even accepting a job that required a move. HR called the same or next day with an offer and to set up travel for a week of training the following week.

I submitted my resume and then they had me do an online skills test. After they saw my results, they scheduled an interview. Since I was from out of town, they were really flexible and let me do a phone interview. Then, I went in for a face-to-face interview and they offered me the job right away. It was a really good and not scary experience for my first real job after college.
