A&R and Client Development
I was really excited to start interviewing for the A&R and Client Development position at Symphonic Distribution. Their image as an artist-first, people-centric company really resonated with me because I also focus on building lasting relationships and fostering growth. The process kicked off with an AI chatbot interview, which honestly felt a bit impersonal and disconnected. However, the subsequent conversations I had with the recruiter, senior leadership, and a team member were much more engaging and brought back my initial enthusiasm. Soon after, the recruiter moved our chat to WhatsApp and asked how I'd feel about a contractor role: a set monthly payment, no commissions, but a chance to go full-time with bonuses after hitting certain targets within an unspecified timeframe. Since this was a role focused on revenue, and they'd explicitly asked me to consider these terms, I requested more details about the targets, the timeline, and what the full-time job would entail. That's when the vibe changed. Instead of providing any answers, I was informed it wasn't a formal offer and that leadership was still looking at other candidates. After that, communication just stopped. My multiple attempts to follow up over the next few months with the recruiter, hiring manager, and leadership were met with silence. I totally get that companies might change their minds or pick someone else, but what really bummed me out was the complete lack of explanation after they asked me to consider specific terms, and not even getting a final word. The whole experience felt pretty off compared to their public promises of being transparent and caring about people.
- What are your strategies for expanding Symphonic's presence in Europe?
DSP Relations Coordinator
It was a very impersonal AI interview. I never got an answer about the process after the interview. I felt underappreciated because I didn't speak to a human during the process. I won't accept being interviewed by a machine ever again.
- Can you describe what a typical workday involves?
Product Manager
It was a first-round interview with an AI bot. I was a bit disappointed that they chose to use AI over an actual person, but it was a straightforward call.
- Can you elaborate on your technical skills?
- Please list your product experience.
- Could you walk me through your resume?
Senior PHP Developer
A recruiter I know told me about the job, I looked it over and sent my resume. The next week I was asked if I could interview that day... I interviewed the day after, the manager was smart, seemed rushed but was a good guy. It was fine until I was asked to write some simple Laravel code in front of the whole dev team. They tried to make it comfortable but I've never done that before and in an interview, I was nervous. The task was easy, but I wasn't ready to have 4 people watch my every move on a big TV. I second-guessed myself with every key I pressed, wondering if there was a better way. I'm not sure why they did that, I knew the framework, but it felt like they were testing my 'coding in front of devs deciding my fate' skills. It was nerve-wracking and a bad way to judge skills. I guess I dodged a bullet with the code mess they have. For the interview, make sure you can route links, save and fetch data from a model, and make a form to do it. I'd practice coding while people watch.
