First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Swords to Plowshares.
IT Support
The interview process wasn't too complicated. Beyond the standard questions about your past work experiences, they seemed more focused on your personality and how well you'd fit in with the team.
- Can you share an instance where you had a disagreement with your manager?
Mental Health Counselor
The interview process was very direct. I had a comprehensive interview with two employees, one of whom was in a more senior position, right in the first round. They asked several repetitive questions about policies and ethical standards. They only allowed about three minutes for my questions. After the interview, they asked for references, but I chose not to proceed further due to my experience and the role not being the ideal fit.
- Can you explain how you ensure adherence to agency policy standards?
- Describe a situation where you successfully de-escalated a crisis.
Coordinator
There were 3 rounds. I met with the people I would be working with. We talked a lot about veteran experience and making sure I understood it. We also discussed different office locations and the importance of knowing about the veteran community, including challenges like homelessness and PTSD after they separate from service.
- Tell me about your background with veterans and any specific terms you know.
- What experience do you have working with veterans, and are you familiar with common terminology used?
- Can you share your experience related to veterans and the terminology associated with them?
Property Manager
It was a really thorough interview process. We began with a phone interview, and if that went well, the next step was an in-person interview. They gave me a good overview of the job duties and discussed the living accommodations.
- Can you share an instance where you dealt with a challenging situation?
