After setting up the interview, which was easy, I got an email with some old videos. They asked what I thought of them, and I just said they were great. The interviewer seemed to have no experience in the field and had a bad attitude, making the call unhelpful and a waste of time. I didn't get any insight into working there. They want you to follow their process, which makes me think they'll be hard to work for and won't provide direction. SVN has a 6-week training program on sales techniques, then you start calling and have to dial 250 people a week. I asked if I'd specialize in commercial real estate, and the answer was no, I'd do all types. This reinforced my feeling that the interviewer was the wrong person to talk to and that you're on your own. I have experience in multifamily and connections, and noticed they have no listings in that field. I asked about recent sales, and she said that field isn't good, which felt like an offensive question. I also asked why I'd choose SVN over another brokerage given no starting salary and asked about the payout structure, which she also didn't like. She said not to expect money for a year. It felt like she treated my questions as offensive. At the end, she asked me to take an assessment and call references, and then come in for an interview if the assessment checks out.

It was a formal process. Started with a screening call, then I interviewed with the owner of the location. They asked a lot of detailed questions and wanted specific examples. Overall, it was a good experience. The whole thing took about 3 weeks. I did have to follow up a few times to get status updates.

I had a casual one-hour chat with two Associates. We went over my portfolio and resume, and discussed my past work. They were looking to see me even though they weren't actively hiring, stemming from an application I sent.

It wasn't too hard, just the usual questions. Make sure you can talk about why you're good at sales and share examples of when you've used those skills. They're looking for someone with persistence, a drive to succeed, and good people skills.
