This interview felt really high-pressure, like people were either yelling at me to do better or I was yelling at them. It was one of the most aggressive and hostile interviews I've ever been through. They didn't seem to realize they need to sell the company to me too. They didn't like that I was working on my own startup in my free time. They wanted to make me commit to staying for 2-3 years, even though it's an at-will job. It seemed like they were still mad about the last person leaving and had to find someone to fill the role. They also wanted to give me more responsibility, like managing people, but weren't willing to give me the right title or pay for it.

An external recruiter reached out and passed my info to an internal recruiter who did the initial phone screen. It was pretty standard until the end where there was a quiz with 6 questions, and I needed at least 3 correct to advance. The next interview was a 1-hour tech screen with two engineers. The first half was them probing my knowledge, and the second half was a live coding challenge with two JavaScript closure problems. Given the closure questions and the quiz, I wasn't really interested anymore.

The interview process was fast, on time, and to the point. It was an enjoyable experience with a great friendly and professional atmosphere. They gave me plenty of time to talk about the position, the people, and the company. They were clear about what and who they are looking for in this role and upfront about it being a hybrid position.

The HR person wasn't sure which role the interview was for, but mentioned it was for Principal Engineer, though management might be looking for Sr. Software Engineer. So, be clear about that. The process is quite slow, taking over a month for three interview rounds. Round 1 was technical, Round 2 was technical and managerial, and Round 3 was with HR.
