I spoke with an in-house recruiter at SEI. The company has this eBook called "The SEI Way" which I read and found really informative about the company, making it seem like a great place. The recruiter was surprisingly dry, which was odd given the company's focus on customer service and good morale. He asked what I found on the website, and I shared my positive thoughts about the company. I knew a lot about SEI but held back some info to avoid talking too much. After a few more standard questions, he moved to a form. Most questions were typical, requiring quick and concise answers. I take responsibility for not performing as well as I could have, and after receiving the rejection email, I asked for feedback. I haven't heard back, and I'd expect a good recruiter to at least provide honest feedback.

I went through four interviews for this role. The first was a phone screen, and then the rest were lunch interviews. The entire process was great, I felt a good connection with each consultant I spoke with. The conversations mainly focused on SEI and standard PM questions. I prepared by reviewing Glassdoor feedback and reading about SEI online. The recruiter contacted me after finding me on LinkedIn to inform me I didn't get the offer. I thought that was good because most candidates who weren't selected received a system-generated email. I wasn't given a specific reason for not being selected, just that I wasn't the right fit.

I found SEI through an alumni job board from my MBA program. The role seemed like a great fit for my skills and experience, so I applied. First, I had two phone interviews, which were basically an initial screening. After that, I moved on to the in-person interviews. Unlike many consulting interviews, there weren't any case questions. They asked some questions to make sure I had the right technical skills, but it was mostly about personality fit – assessing if I would fit into their culture and if they'd want to spend a lot of time with me. In total, I had eight interviews before it was over. It's a small company, and they really focus on ensuring they find the right person for the team.

The interview process was really smooth. It took about 6-7 weeks total. I applied through my school and had two on-campus interviews. After that, I went to SEI's headquarters for two more interviews. The questions weren't technical; the interviewers seemed more focused on intangible qualities that would make someone a good fit for the role, rather than technical knowledge. The interviewers were some of the best I've encountered. I really enjoyed the whole experience.
