They went over the job title and department, talking about how important the job is in the company. They explained the main goals of the position and how it helps the company achieve its bigger objectives. They talked about the key duties, including day-to-day tasks and specific projects. The discussion also included the needed skills and qualifications, stressing the importance of both technical and soft skills. They also explained the reporting structure and how the role works with other departments, highlighting its role in making a unified work environment. Overall, it gave a clear understanding of the role and what's expected.

The entire hiring process stretched for about six months. After I applied, there was a waiting period until the job posting closed. Getting a callback and scheduling the interviews took some time because the team was really busy and their availability kept changing. First, I had an interview with a group of my potential peers. Then, I met with the Supervisor I would report to, along with other supervisors at the same level. Finally, I had two more interviews with the senior manager overseeing everyone. They asked standard questions about my strengths, weaknesses, hypothetical scenarios, salary expectations, and my career goals for the next five years.

The MD/PhD interview day included four interviews, each lasting one hour. Three interviews were with faculty members, and one was with a current student. This is not an MSTP program, so funding isn't from the NIH. These hour-long interviews are pretty exhausting and difficult - how much more can you really say about yourself in that time? Also, the researchers didn't seem super excited about their work - maybe it's a funding thing?

It was straightforward. Just make sure you dress appropriately. The manager asked me to tell her about myself. Then she went on to ask about my experience and why I think they should hire me. She also asked me how I managed conflict in the workplace.
