I got to the phone interview part, and a few of the hiring committee faculty talked with me. It all went fine, and they were all nice. I didn't advance to the next stage of campus visits.

I applied for this role back in February 2025. They said a decision for the on-campus part would be made by March. March passed, and I followed up in April. They told me the timeline was delayed, they were still taking applications, and to direct all future questions to HR. I guess that meant I didn't get the job. It's June now, and I haven't heard anything. I saw on LinkedIn that the internal candidate got the job.

The department took a very long time to get back to me after the initial contact, all the way up to the on-campus interview. It was so long I thought they weren't interested anymore. The administrative part was easy, just chatting with the dean and a few standard questions from the provost (though they just got a new one so it might be different now). Then there was a teaching demonstration. Some students were engaged, but others seemed bored or distracted by their phones. The rest of the interview was the typical questions, nothing surprising. The department felt a bit conservative, though they wouldn't call themselves that. They also took a while to send the rejection, which I was relieved about. I'm calling the demo 'easy' because creating one always has some difficulty and feels a bit forced.

Behavioral Technical

I applied online and a few weeks later I was contacted to set up a phone interview. The phone interview seemed to go very well. The hiring manager did a great job of explaining the position to me and was also very receptive when I answered their questions and explained my experience. Another person was also on the phone call. This individual seemed very disengaged and asked me to clarify things that were painfully obvious and then didn't seem to be satisfied by my answers. No offense, but it did leave me with an odd feeling about working at the college. The interviewer explained towards the end of the call that they were still interviewing candidates and that those who passed the phone interview would be brought in for an in-person interview. A week later I was notified that the position had been filled. All in all it was a great experience but I couldn't shake the feeling that they had other people in mind. Seems like there was a lot of applicants and they had their pick.
