SunTrust Mortgage Interview Questions
& Process

My resume got submitted by the staffing agency I used to SunTrust, and they seemed interested in my skills. One of the hiring managers wanted to chat on the phone. After that initial call, they were going to set up another with more managers, but they changed their mind and invited me for an in-person interview the next week. That final interview involved meeting 6 managers across 4 separate meetings. The first interview focused on my background and past work. The second interview was similar with different managers asking about my experiences. Some questions in those first two interviews weren't really related to the job, but I noticed they seemed to care a lot about my answers to those before deciding. It was pretty obvious they weren't very experienced with job interviews. The third meeting was with the department head who talked about why their department is a good place to work and grow. I paid close attention because his points were really useful and important. In the last meeting, I met the hiring manager, and he gave me an idea of the projects they're working on. It was fun, interesting, and very informative. A few days later, the agency told me they decided against moving forward.

Had a phone interview, with one person for the first round and then three managers for the second interview. They were supposed to call at a specific time but ended up calling over an hour late. The managers seemed unprepared and unsure of what questions to ask, even joking about their lack of preparation. I had to call them back because the reception was bad in their conference rooms.

The interview process included an initial HR phone screen, then a in-person meeting with the hiring manager, and finally a call back with HR. I didn't like this process because SunTrust has a really bad policy of only giving a 4% raise no matter the grade promotion or job being taken. It is possible to get around this with the right paperwork to Jerome, but hardly any hiring managers will do it.

The hiring process was great for me as a recent college graduate. They let me know if I was hired before I graduate college, so I felt confident when I was done with school that I knew where I was headed. The interview was held at my school, which is convenient for students. Three members of the team came to interview, but it was very conversational and pleasant.
