First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sunstar Group.
Senior Executive Assistant
The interviews felt very professional, and the company gave off a good vibe. They really liked my professional skills, but they were hoping for someone with prior experience specifically in a Japanese company, and also someone who gets how family-owned businesses operate.
- Can you share your understanding of Japanese company culture?
E-Commerce Content Specialist
After about 15 minutes into the interview, the interviewer decided to end it early, stating there was no point in continuing since I lacked e-commerce experience. This was surprising given that my resume clearly indicated experience in other sectors, and it made me wonder why I was even invited to the interview in the first place.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- What motivated you to apply for this role?
Buyer/Planner
The hiring process here feels pretty slow. A lot of folks got furloughed back in the day because of the pandemic, so it doesn't seem like the most stable place. After going through the interviews, I got the vibe that the company isn't really invested in employee growth. First up was a phone screen with a recruiter where we chatted about behavior questions and just had a general conversation. Then, I spoke with the HR manager who asked more technical questions, touching on ERP systems and negotiation tactics. Finally, I met with the Director, who came across as a very old-school manager type. Honestly, there wasn't a clear plan or vision laid out for his department.
- Could you provide an overview of the company?
- Can you share some examples of your past experiences? (Behavioral)
- How would you handle specific situations? (Situational)
Financial Analyst
The recruiter reached out via LinkedIn about this role. Initially, she was reluctant to share salary details, requiring persistence to get more information, which was ironic since she initiated contact. The hiring manager seemed uninterested during the interview. The job description provided by the recruiter differed significantly from the information the hiring manager discussed. However, the VP was engaging and genuinely interested in the conversation. It seems like the hiring manager and recruiter might be reasons why they struggle to hire.
- Can you discuss P&L statements?
- How do you approach cash flow analysis?
- What are your thoughts on financial statement questions?
