Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sunsail.
Flotilla Host
First, you submit your CV and cover letter. If selected, you'll attend an assessment center. Beforehand, you'll prepare a presentation simulating a morning brief for guests on a flotilla. Upon arrival, you'll meet other candidates in reception before being taken to the interview by recruitment staff. They'll start with a brief presentation about the company and why you want to work there. Then, you'll take turns delivering your prepared presentation to the group. Following that, there's a short group task where you need to decide what items to take on a survival journey if stranded on a beach. After that, you'll complete a silent, written task involving scenario questions, like "When organising a beach BBQ for guests what would you need to consider?". There's a short lunch break. In the afternoon, there are 1:1 interviews, about 30 minutes long, covering your background, sailing and work experience, and some scenario/example-based questions. Overall, it was a positive experience with friendly staff.
- Can you detail your sailing experience?
- What factors would you consider when organizing a beach BBQ for guests?
- Could you tell us about yourself?
Kids Coordinator
We'll check your sailing knowledge and how you've worked with young people before. We'll also talk about how you work in a team and if you can get along with others on board, since you'll be sharing the lead boat with other staff. Sailing knowledge or knowing the area is a plus.
- Have you held similar roles in different places before?
Host
We had to make a 5-minute presentation for everyone, pretending we were about to kick off a flotilla. They also asked about my past boating experience and if it was a good fit for the job.
- What relevant experience do you bring?
- Can you share your previous boating experience?
- How does your past boating experience align with the requirements of this role?
Flotilla Host
So, the interview had two parts. First, we had to give a 1-minute presentation of the welcome speech for guests arriving on the boat. This was in front of about 10 other people interviewing that day. Then, there was a 20-minute 1:1 interview.
- Can you tell me about your sailing experience and qualifications?
