First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at SunLife.
Analyst
The process was totally transparent. They asked fair and relevant questions, it didn't feel like an interview just for the sake of it. It was very methodical too. I wish all interview processes were like this. Thanks for the chance to interview.
- Tell me about your experience.
- What is your motivation for applying to Sun Life?
- Describe a situation and how you handled it.
Innovation Manager
There were two interviews for this role. First, an HR interview which is meant to prep you for the hiring manager interview. Then, the actual hiring manager interview. Both interviews were about an hour long. These were pretty standard interviews, nothing too tricky. They care more about your actual experience than just theory.
- On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your skills in [X]?
Intern
The interview process involved two interviewers and included a mix of technical and personal questions. This was for a combined role covering both the Toronto and Waterloo offices. The interview started with introductions. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience with multiple interviewers.
- Tell me about yourself and your background.
- Do you have any technical questions for us?
- Can you describe a situation where you had to deal with a specific challenge?
Software Engineer
Had an HR interview first for a get to know you and behavioral questions over the phone. Then onsite for past experience and technical questions. Then onsite again with the director of the department for technical questions. A few red flags popped up though: they changed the job title before offering the job, the SunLife Recruiter was really insistent on my existing salary during negotiations, and at the very end, they changed the location from Toronto to Waterloo.
- Could you tell me which programming language or framework you would pick to build a REST API and explain your reasoning?
