First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sunflower Bank.
Portfolio Manager
The interview process felt like it was just a formality to meet an internal requirement to promote someone already within the company. The interviews were super informal, making me wonder if they were really serious about considering external candidates or if it was just a checkbox exercise. One of the interviewers did mention in writing that they were evaluating several candidates, including internal ones, and that the company prefers to promote internally for professional growth, which they thought was great. But this stated preference for internal candidates from the start made me doubt the transparency of the external hiring process. It was also odd that HR wasn't more involved beyond an automated notification. Overall, Sunflower Bank could really improve its hiring process to be more transparent and fair to everyone. They should remember that they were once external candidates themselves, and prioritizing internal candidates exclusively would have prevented their own career progression.
- Four unprofessional informal interviews were conducted to fulfill the process requirements and promote an internal candidate.
Post Closing Specialist
It was a straightforward and easy conversation. They briefly went through my required experience, education, and qualifications. Then, we talked about the responsibilities of the position and management’s expectations. The interviewing supervisor and HR staff were nice and friendly. They made an offer the next day.
- Can you tell me about yourself and your current job responsibilities?
Project Manager
Applied online through the website. Had an initial phone screen to gauge interest and discuss the role and responsibilities. Then, a 1:1 with the hiring manager to assess my skills, background, how my experience fits the role, and where I can add value. The second round was with a panel of several managers who are involved in the majority of the project activity the company is working on. They assessed my skills, gave me an overview of projects I would be working on, and how I would apply my capabilities. It was a good conversation and helped everyone get a clear understanding of the work involved and if it was a good mutual fit.
- Can you share your approach to ensuring resources meet project deadlines?
Compliance Analyst
I sat in a conference room with 3 other people and they each took turns asking me questions about my work history and what I did in my current job at the time. They asked me to describe any previous training I had taken and what it involved. They also asked about my schooling/education background and where I graduated from. They wanted to know why I was interested in the position and if I was willing to make the commitment to work for them.
- What prior training do you have that would be relevant to the position you are applying for?
