Behavioral Technical

The interview experience at SumUp really centered on achievements, skills, and specific numbers or metrics. While I get that the goal is to learn as much as possible about a candidate, I felt a lack of empathy and a human touch during the process. It felt more like an interrogation than a conversation, but maybe that's just how it is in this industry with its heavy focus on numbers and KPIs. Their hiring process has 5 stages, and each one lasts about an hour.

Behavioral Technical Case Presentation

It was 4 video calls. First was a recruiter screening. Second with an HRBP - a detailed conversation about the business, their needs and how a candidate might fit in. Third with a Lead recruiter - more interesting discussion about recruitment, an exercise asking how one might look at, interpret, and act on data about the hiring process. Fourth with a Co-Founder - discussed the position, business, ideas and goals for the company. After all these stages and all the calls to arrange this (upwards of 5 hours of time in total, excluding prep) I was declined by a generic email. I then had to chase for feedback which was not insightful at all. An average process punctuated by a TERRIBLE finish.

Behavioral Other

The process was good. We had an initial call where we talked about what they were looking for and made sure we were on the same page. They explained the whole process and let me decide how quickly I wanted to move. They were really respectful of my time and upfront about everything. The interviews were challenging and made me think, but also helped me clarify what I was looking for. When they gave me the offer, I felt really good about what to expect and the team I'd be joining.
