The hiring process included taking a practice test and also going through trainings for learning the content of the tests and how to tutor. You would also go through the books that you use for tutoring.

Behavioral Technical

The interview started with a 45-minute Zoom call where I was asked about my background and hypothetical situations. I also got to ask about the job. Then, I had to take the ACT test within a few days. Even though I'm a senior and have disabilities, and have had other careers, I hadn't taken a standardized test in 45 years and was unfamiliar with the ACT, despite tutoring SATs for two years. The interviewer gave me incorrect information and had setup issues with the test multiple times. Preparing for and taking the test, while managing concerns about my disability, took about 4 hours and led to disappointing results. She initially told me I met the minimum score, but later denied saying it, possibly mixing up numbers. Overall, if you or your child has a disability, I'd avoid these rude and inflexible people.

Resume and CL submitted electronically. First interview was about an hour, in person with two people from management within the department. They asked general questions (e.g. why do you want to work here, what do you bring to the table, what are your key values?), questions related to the position, and situational questions (e.g., what to do you if....). Second interview was about 2-3 hours, in person with the executive director, HR/business director, and another department head. They were all nice, professional people with good questions. There was some repetition (tell me about you) but that’s understandable when you’re meeting someone. The one thing I didn’t like was that I feel as though they weren’t transparent with salary. I was asked what my expectations were and at that point I asked about the salary. I was given a range which but the way it was stated was not confidently. They say “competitive salary” and I’m not sure how to personally evaluate it. It was a decent pay cut for me but I was expecting that. I didn’t get the job so I can’t say whether future negotiations would have been possible. Benefits: 50:50 healthcare match (I believe HMO) 401k fully vested 3% match after 1 year Flex time within reason Accrued paid time off. From my impression, really positive and supportive work environment.

I had a 30-minute interview with HR about standard interview stuff. After that, I did a 30-minute practice teaching session with a tutor manager. They gave me four SAT/ACT questions and I had to show how I'd coach a student through them.
