First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Summer Search.
Director of Development
It was a pretty involved and long process. I met a bunch of really great people, including some staff and board members. The main interview was a little weird since some people were on video and some were there in person. The hiring manager communicated well though.
- Describe your leadership style.
Program Director
After submitting my cover letter and resume, I went through several interview rounds, including phone, video, and an in-person meeting where I had the chance to connect with the team. The interviews were a mix of group sessions and one-on-one meetings. They also checked my references. The overall vibe was approachable, and while some interviewers were very skilled, others in the group interviews were less so and asked some slightly off-topic questions, though nothing too serious. They were very clear about the process, making it feel human-centered.
- Can you describe your approach to racial equity in your professional activities?
Director of Evaluation and Research
The hiring process consisted of three interview stages. The first was a screening call. The second interview was with the Executive Director. The final stage involved meeting with various team members who would be interacting with the role. Overall, the process felt fair and relaxed, offering a good chance to learn about the company and its culture, and also providing space for me to share details about my skills and interests.
- Can you share your motivation for wanting to join Summer Search?
- Tell me about a specific situation you encountered...
Program Associate
The interview process for this entry level job was really flexible, professional, and nice, but it did take a really long time. It started with a 30-minute phone screening. A few days later, I found out I was moving on to an in-person interview with the Executive Director, which was done over Skype since I was out of town and lasted about an hour. After that, they told me if I got the job, I'd have to interview with two more managers and then do a team interview. About a week after, I was scheduled for it. The last interview took two hours total: the first hour was with two direct managers, and the second hour was a group conversation with potential teammates. Everyone was really friendly, professional, and open. They basically said I got the job but couldn't make an offer right away. I really wanted it, so I was fine waiting. About two weeks later, I got the offer call and email.
- Can you tell me about your experience?
- Could you describe a difficult situation you've encountered?
- There was a case study, but it mostly just required common sense to answer.
