I had a 30-minute in-person chat with a really nice lady. She asked me stuff from my resume and why I'm interested in Sumitomo Electric. They seem to like bilingual people, though they said English speakers are okay too.

So I applied to Sumitomo Electric Group as a new grad. First, we had this Japanese thing called OB OG Visit where you meet alumni from your uni at a cafe. I think I went to about 4 of those. Then, I had some HR interviews.

Applied online and heard back from HR about a week later. Their emails were super short and had a bad attitude. I had to send them my CV pdf because Indeed messed up the dates on my application, and they were really rude about it, saying it was easier if I just told them the dates instead of looking at the pdf I had to download during my break. They wanted a 2-stage in-person interview but gave me really limited times, and one was when I was already on holiday. I suggested a virtual option for flexibility, but they ignored it. When I mentioned my holiday, they got aggressive and asked if I wanted them to just cancel the interview. Their attitude was terrible, not a good representation of the company. The workspace seemed okay, but benefits and salary were below average. They wouldn't commit to anything, and I decided not to proceed because of the HR attitude issues. Probably a job for someone desperate and local. This role seems to be open often, which makes sense given the high staff turnover.

After an initial phone contact, an online test is administered through the company's portal. This involves registration and proficiency tests covering various areas like math, logic, English, and Portuguese. A registration form also needs to be filled out with your previous experience and educational background.
