First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Suffolk Credit Union.
Project Manager
It was very PMP-focused and structured. They were interested in my previous experience, specifically how I've handled objections or difficult stakeholders and my communication style. They didn't give a lot of specifics about the project, just that it was big and the deadline was tight.
- Given your past experience, how do you think it would apply to the banking sector?
- Could you explain your approach to learning a new business domain like ours?
- Tell me about a time you had to deal with difficult stakeholders and overcome their objections.
Human Resources Generalist
I had a really positive initial call with HR that lasted about 45 minutes. They mentioned they were looking to hire quickly and we discussed my background. I asked about the next steps, and they said they'd be in touch within 1-2 weeks for an in-person interview at their Medford office, and I confirmed that was fine. However, I never heard back, not even an email to say they moved on or chose someone else. I was expecting some kind of update from the hiring team. I was really into this job and thought I'd get a call to schedule the in-person interview. This was way back in September 2020. My feedback for management would be to keep candidates informed in a timely way, as applicants can also be customers.
- How is your experience with ADP?
- Would you be okay with working in the office during the pandemic since there's no remote option?
- Tell me about your coaching experience.
Brand Manager
The first stage was pretty straightforward, they got back to me quickly and set up an in-person meeting after a quick chat with a hiring manager. I met with the marketing director, and I thought that went well, which led to a second interview, this time virtual, with the VP of marketing. I felt good about that one too. Everyone I talked to seemed really good at their jobs. But then, crickets for weeks after the second interview, even after I emailed to check in. I eventually saw on LinkedIn that they'd hired someone else. It was pretty weird not to hear back after two interviews; really unprofessional.
- Can you share your past experiences relevant to this position?
Marketing Senior Vice President
It was a bunch of panel interviews over a month. They kept asking the same questions. Some new leaders on the team, some old, and the questions felt a bit all over the place. I had to do a written assessment that was like free consulting work. They said they needed someone fast, but it took them more than three weeks to tell me their decision. My advice to them: keep candidates updated, especially when they've gone through so many interviews for a big job.
- How much do you know about the banking industry, and what's your experience in it?
- Tell me about your marketing background and skills.
- What's your strategy for data and market segmentation?
