I was handed a form to complete with candidate info, 5 questions for tutors, and 7 hypothetical scenarios. One scenario was: 'Your student is very shy and quiet, and you are trying to develop a good rapport with them. What are some strategies to get them to open up a bit?'

The interview was a while ago, but it was a good experience overall. I just had one interview with the person I would report to, and she was great. It covered all the standard interview topics.

The whole hiring process took a while, about 6 months from application to getting the first call. Then there was a 90-minute interview with a search committee. About 3 weeks after that, I had a second interview with the direct report for the position and someone from HR. Two weeks later, I got an offer. Just so you know if you're thinking about working at Suffolk CCC, the process is slow. They also don't tell you the salary range upfront. Even though it's a public college and salaries are online, they don't seem to use those numbers to decide what to offer. So, don't expect a certain amount, and they absolutely did not negotiate salary with me at all; it was a 'take it or leave it' offer. Knowing this beforehand would have been helpful.

I got hired in two different departments as a workstudy student initially. Before fall semester 2018, I looked through the college campus job bank and found a part-time permanent job I could do all year. I called my future employer, left a message, and he called back. He invited me to my future workplace and we talked about the job requirements. He asked about my experience, and I told him what I could. I gave him my resume and recommendations. He showed me around the mailroom and the tasks involved. He said he'd let me know in a day or two if I got the job.
