Technical Coding

I had a phone interview with developers where they asked me basic C++ questions, algorithms, and OS knowledge. Then there was an online coding test with 3 questions. They were mid-level difficulty, and I managed to answer 2 of them, though they felt a bit challenging for me.

The recruiter texted me to let me know they sent some questions to my email. I answered them that same day with detailed responses. After more than two weeks of no contact or confirmation, I had to chase down the recruiters via email, but they ended up sending a generic rejection. So, the recruiting process was pretty bad, honestly.

Behavioral Technical

This company's interview process was pretty long and at times felt like an interrogation. I went through 3 long interviews, and one was even scheduled on the same day. I was really disappointed because after all that, I wasn't chosen. It shouldn't take 3 interviews to decide they don't want to move forward with a candidate. During one interview, the hiring manager asked me why I wanted to leave my current job and if there were layoffs, which felt insensitive since there were layoffs (though I wasn't affected). I felt like they were digging too much into my personal life instead of focusing on my ability to do the job. The questions just weren't relevant. Then, I had an interview with someone from the team who was getting his car serviced at the time, which made me feel like they weren't taking me seriously. That whole experience emotionally drained me, and honestly, I realized I'm happy where I am now. I'm actually grateful things didn't work out because who knows how I would have been treated if I joined. I also noticed a real lack of diversity on LinkedIn, couldn't find five African Americans.

Coding System Design Behavioral Presentation

The interview process was very professional and well-prepared, but it was the most demanding and time-consuming I've ever experienced. After some initial email questions and a phone screen, I was given a mockup and specs to build a small application, which took a few hours. The in-person interview lasted about 4 hours and included simple whiteboard coding tests (CSS and a programming language of my choice), a brief design challenge, and many deep "tell me about a time when" questions from various departments. They kindly provided lunch during the day, but afterward, I felt I should have been compensated for my time.
