Math and ELA Tutor
A month ago, I went through the interview process. It kicked off with a reading and math assessment. After passing that, I had an interview a few days later. Honestly, the interview part wasn't great. The recruiter asked a lot of questions, but when I asked for specifics like the exact tutoring location, the number of students, or training details, she was really vague and didn't give clear answers. It was a strange experience for me.
- What motivates you to apply for this role and join our company?
- Can you describe what makes a tutor effective and efficient?
- How do you handle challenges and juggle various tasks?
Tutor
They started with a quick skills test covering language arts and math, which wasn't too long. After that, a half-hour Zoom interview was set up, but it actually finished sooner. Everything moved really fast and was pretty straightforward.
- Could you describe your previous tutoring experience?
Associate Director
So, I got an offer from Study Smart, but they rescinded it when I tried to negotiate the salary. The interview process itself was pretty standard for a partnerships management role, and the vibes were good, even though it was a bit disorganized. It had two parts: first, an HR interview, and then an interview with the hiring managers. On Thursday, they extended the offer. I followed up on Friday to get more details about benefits, total compensation, OTE, and so on, which they sent over on Monday. Then on Tuesday, things got weird. After about four hours, I sent an email with a counteroffer – a diplomatic request for a salary within the job posting's range – but it was denied. I then asked if they would consider a signing bonus, without specifying an amount, and that was also denied. I said okay, I understand. What are the next steps then? About ninety minutes later, I got an email saying they decided not to proceed with the job offer. It's a really bad way to treat candidates. I negotiated in good faith, and they pulled the offer. It felt disrespectful and spiteful. While it's disappointing, I guess I dodged a bullet. If you're reading this, I suggest you do the same.
- How do you handle objections?
- What methods do you employ for driving renewals and increasing sales?
- How would you go about training a team to execute these strategies?
Virtual Facilitator
The interviewer was super nice and I thought I did great. But, I was really surprised by the rejection and how they handled it. I didn't hear back until I reached out first, which is kinda common but felt odd and rude here. I asked for feedback to help me grow as a facilitator, thinking they'd want to help me improve, but they just said their decision was final and they don't give feedback. This felt like a big miss, especially since I have years of experience in virtual group facilitation, and I was really excited about the possibility of working there.
- In your groups, how do you get participants engaged?
