Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Stream (CO).
Software Engineer
The recruiter was super helpful and made things easy up to the culture fit part. After that, it got a bit weird. The culture fit interview, which I thought would be quick, felt awkward and tense. Then, a surprise interview with the CTO was added late in the game. It got pushed back a few times. When we finally talked, it felt like he was judging me and dismissing my experience, making assumptions and unfairly criticizing my drive. Even though I did well on the technical parts and earlier interviews, I got rejected. It felt like internal politics and changing goals mattered more than my actual skills.
- Can you design an event-driven system?
- How would you optimize databases for better performance?
Software Engineer
I went through the interview process with Stream in the summer. There were a couple of minor issues because of holidays, but it didn't really cause any problems. The recruiter was really helpful whenever I needed it, and always available to answer my questions. The whole thing was pretty relaxed. It honestly didn't feel like an interview at all. The recruiter was very direct and easy to talk to (even cracked some jokes), and there wasn't the usual back and forth I've dealt with in my job search.
- Can you describe your experience using Go?
- What kind of projects have you been involved with that used Go?
Software Engineer
A recruiter reached out via email. We had a 50-minute video chat. Then I spoke with the Director of Engineering for about 40 minutes, which ran long. This was before Christmas. I figured I'd hear back in the new year. Got an automated email saying my data would be deleted in 10 days, so I guess I didn't get it. No rejection email or feedback after 2 hours of my time is pretty bad. Some Glassdoor reviews suggest I dodged a bullet.
- Can you discuss your past experience?
- Describe your experience with different architectural approaches.
- What are your methods for optimizing database performance, including the trade-offs associated with choices like indexing?
