First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at STMicroelectronics.
Applications Engineer
It was a 3 hour meeting with the whole team. Everyone on the team reviewed my resume and asked me some technical questions, specifically in C. I'm not sure if there were any other parts to the interview.
- Could you write a C function to find the most significant bit of an integer?
Applications Engineer
I was first contacted by a recruiter to chat about my background and what I was looking for, and they compared my resume against some open roles. They also asked about my preferences since there were five roles open at the time, and I didn't know the company name yet. Once I picked one, I talked more with the recruiter, then learned about the company. After that, I spoke with a local HR rep who asked more about my education and motivation, and also gave me the lowdown on salary and benefits. Then, HR and my potential manager connected with me to set up a Skype interview. The interview included technical questions about my role and related tasks, and an applications engineer (who's now my colleague) was also there. Following that, I was invited for an in-person interview at their office. This involved more chats about my background and motivation, plus several hands-on tasks like circuit design, schematic analysis, soldering, and measuring results, which I then had to present. The whole day was pretty packed with technical stuff and getting to know each other on a more personal level than usual. About a week later, I got the job offer. The whole thing took about 3 months from start to finish.
- What relevant subjects did you study during your degree?
- What is your motivation for working with us?
- Can you describe your knowledge of relevant software and hardware, such as power supplies, oscilloscopes, and simulators?
Field Applications Engineer
It began with an English test, followed by a 2-interviewer session. We talked about my experience, and they asked many questions spanning from my school days to each of my jobs. They also asked me to show a hardware protocol working flow. This whole thing took about 2 hours, including the exam and the face-to-face interview. It was a good experience discussing many techniques with the hiring manager.
- Can you explain the working of I2C and SPI?
- Tell me about your experience during school.
- Can you discuss your previous work experiences?
