Graphic Designer
The interview process at Stetson for the graphic designer position was really professional and engaging. I liked talking about how my Adobe Creative Suite skills and digital marketing experience could help their athletic branding. The portfolio review felt more like a collaborative session than a typical interview, showing Stetson's focus on high-quality production and strategic visual storytelling. It was a great introduction to a team I was really excited about joining.
- Can you explain how you maintain brand consistency in your designs while making them stand out for social media recruitment?
Administrative Support
I applied to Stetson many times with no luck, but then I finally got a response. The assistant director of graduate studies invited me for a virtual interview and sent her calendar so I could pick a time. She kicked off the interview by mentioning how tired she was from interviewing all day, which made me feel like she wasn't fully engaged. She talked about herself, the program, and usual office procedures. She also asked me a few questions and then let me ask mine. I wish I'd scheduled it earlier in the day, as the vibe might have been better.
- What specifically about this role caught your attention and motivated your application?
- In your colleagues' view, what kind of person are you?
- Can you introduce yourself?
Program Manager
There were three interviews in total. First, a phone interview, then a video recording where I had to record myself, and finally a Zoom meeting with three people from the department. Everyone was really nice and seemed sincere. I just didn't get the vibe that they had the expertise to actually grow the program as they envisioned, and I think that's why it wasn't the right fit for me, even though they offered to pay for my travel expenses for an in-person visit to tour the campus and meet them. They asked some basic questions about how I would grow the program during Covid. I was a bit put off by the dean, who barely said anything during our 30-minute one-on-one meeting. It was concerning because it seemed like he was so out of touch with the team and had very little input, direction, or vision. Some might see that as a positive, but from my past experiences, I found it alarming and indicative of a lack of the expertise needed to drive change, which is what I look for in a strong leader.
- What are your five-year career goals?
- What strategies would you use to recruit students during the pandemic?
- How would you establish connections with international student populations?
Program Coordinator
I got a phone call from HR asking me questions about my qualifications for the job. Then, a few days later, they called me back and asked me to prepare a 5-minute presentation within 1.5 days. On the presentation day, I went to HR, and they took me to the library to meet the rest of the office staff and give my presentation. Before the presentation, they wanted to get to know me better, and I spoke about my experience and passion for this field. The following Monday, I received an offer. I started working about two weeks after that.
- Can you tell us about your presentation experience?
