First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sterne Agee and Leach.
Equity Research Associate
The interview process can differ between analysts. Some might ask you to create a model, draft a research report, and present your investment thesis. For others, especially if you have previous experience in a specific sector, the interviews might lean more towards behavioral questions. My experience was brief and focused on non-technical, behavioral aspects.
- What are your career aspirations?
Equity Research Intern
It started with a phone interview, and then a couple of weeks later, I was invited for a second round. The plan was to meet the entire team, but it didn't happen because they weren't available. The interview itself was pretty chill. You really need to step up and confidently walk them through your resume. They want to hear how you'd be valuable to them and about any past experiences that align with this role. Bringing up school projects or assignments to show you're a great fit is also a good idea. Basically, expand on what's written on your resume.
- Could you give me an overview of your resume?
Client Service Associate
The interview was primarily focused on assessing personality fit for the financial advisor's team. It was a low-stress, easy-going experience, largely due to the hiring manager's relaxed approach. They emphasized that personality is crucial for this role and they're looking for someone eager to learn and contribute within a small office setting.
- What would you do in a situation where you need to handle multiple tasks and manage priorities?
Margin Analyst
The interview process felt quite formal. I first had a short phone call where they asked a few small questions. After that, I went in for a formal interview. The team lead and department manager both interviewed me. The interview was quite thorough and included some open-ended questions.
- Are you someone who works well in a team?
- How do you handle receiving criticism?
