First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Steptoe & Johnson.
Prelaw Fellow
It was pretty much what you'd expect from lawyers. They seem nice at first, but that can change. They didn't appreciate my ability to see different political viewpoints, play devil's advocate, and be open to learning. The lawyers who interviewed me all said I could reach out with questions, but then they totally ghosted me. Honestly, not getting the job was probably for the best.
- What area of law interests you?
Administrative Assistant
I went through 3 interviews for this role. The first two were with people in similar positions. It was a pretty relaxed but detailed chat that went on for a while. Then I was asked back to meet with the senior folks I'd be working with. That interview was also good, with solid questions and I got to ask some too. We talked more about my resume, my skills, and what drives me. The final interview was with the section head and the person who previously held the job. I learned more about the role and it was great to meet different people from the team I'd be joining.
- How would you manage a scheduling conflict for important people and keep them on track during a busy day?
Summer Associate
Had a really bad time interviewing. During the first call, they kept asking about why my grades dropped in the second semester, and they were pretty rude about it. They also asked for my exact GPAs for each term and if I had any other job offers or callbacks. Then, at the callback interview, the associates seemed super uninterested and bored when they talked to me.
- Could you introduce yourself?
- How would you describe your legal writing abilities and grades?
- Would you be comfortable committing to 80-90 hour work weeks when a trial is approaching?
Legal Administrative Assistant
The process wasn't too long. I met with several very nice people who communicated well. There were a few interviews before an offer was extended. I started not long after that. Everyone at the firm is really nice and helpful.
- Can you tell me about your experience?
- What are your salary requirements?
- What are you hoping to achieve in this role?
