First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Steppenwolf Theatre.
Wardrobe Supervisor
It was a friendly environment to interview in, and everyone was supportive and happy to speak with me. I could feel that the workplace was full of caring people who took pride in their work. Since I was interviewing for a supervisor role, there were several interviews throughout the process.
- Can you describe how you would collaborate with different departments to reach a common objective?
Development Associate
I went through three interviews, and then I was told the company had restructured. They offered me to apply for this position, which was much lower. When I got to my fourth interview, the interviewer, who was new to me, said he hadn't read my resume. He then gave me ten minutes to talk about whatever I wanted. That was the entire interview.
- Could you take about ten minutes to discuss anything you'd like to share about yourself?
Publicity Intern
First, there was a phone chat with the hiring manager, followed by a Skype chat with three team members. It was a pretty standard interview, so you have to be ready but no questions were too out there.
- What type of work environment do you find ideal?
- What aspects of the upcoming season are you most looking forward to?
Scenic Carpenter
The Technical Director reached out to me for an interview. It was pretty casual. He asked about my fabrication background, my carpentry abilities, and any theatre experience I had. He also wanted to know what tools I knew how to use. He gave me a quick rundown of the job, and then that was it. The very next time he called, he let me know I got the job.
- Can you tell me about your previous carpentry experience?
