First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Step Up for Students.
Finance Analyst
The interview process was straightforward and clear. I had a screen interview with a Recruiter, then a detailed interview, followed by an Excel test. After that, I interviewed with the manager and the Director. They were clear about what they expected from the hired person.
- Can you describe your experience?
Senior Manager
I found the job on the company website and applied. A recruiter from HR reached out to set up the initial conversation. After that, I went through two panel interviews. The first panel had three interviewers, and the second panel had two. Before the second panel interview, I had to complete an online technical test.
- Can you share an instance from your past experiences where you encountered a specific situation?
- Describe a time when you had to deal with a particular scenario.
Customer Service Representative
The interview process was pretty easy. It involved basic customer service questions, focusing on how I handle customers and their issues. There were also some questions about technical skills, like which video conferencing programs I've used and how to perform basic browser functions such as opening a new tab or an incognito tab. The interview stages included a phone call and an in-person meeting.
- Can you share your previous experience, particularly in handling customer issues?
- Tell me about your experience with handling customer issues.
SQL Developer
I was put forward by a recruiter and had a phone screen the first week. After that, I had an in-person interview a few days later. It was really friendly and easy to talk to. The in-person interview had four people from technology and business departments and one HR rep. They asked a bunch of questions and then gave me some technical questions that felt more like a DBA role than a developer one. They did mention they might move to cloud systems in the future. It seemed like a good place to work from the introductions and our chat. I was a bit worried about the salary since it's a non-profit, but it was pretty close to market rate. They also value technical certifications, which is great because many places don't focus enough on developing skills outside of work. Update: The recruiter let me know after a couple of weeks that the position was on hold because the BI manager took another job. Not sure if that means a lot of internal changes are happening.
- Can you describe your approach to query tuning and resolving performance issues?
- Tell me about your background with object-oriented programming.
- Could you walk me through some of your past projects and how you dealt with any challenges that came up during development?
