Software Engineer
Had an initial coding interview, then a virtual onsite with two more coding interviews and a system design interview. They sometimes add another round (coding or design) if they need more info. The experience was good overall, they let me postpone the interviews so I could prep, and gave feedback really fast (like within 2 hours of the initial coding screen). They even took time to give me actual feedback after rejecting me, which was nice. The recruiters and technical interviewers were all super friendly. If I'd gotten an offer, it would've been a tough decision because I had another offer I accepted. The interviews weren't super hard, but I got the vibe they have a high standard.
- Two of the three coding interviews (including the first) involved problems similar to what you'd encounter on the job, one with an OO and multithreading focus. The other was a DSA focused medium Leetcode problem.
- For coding prep, focus on writing quality code quickly. None of the problems required a lot of code, but you want it to be production-ready. The OO question was particularly dense and time-consuming.
- I don't suggest using verbose languages like Java or C++ unless you're very comfortable with them (I used Python).
Data Analytics Lead
I had a third interview scheduled with Step, but I decided to withdraw from the interview process right after my second interview. The first call with the hiring manager went okay, but the second interview, which was supposed to be a SQL screen, was a complete disaster. They sent over a CoderPad document using Python and then asked questions that couldn't be answered with the data provided. For instance, they inquired about profitability when the dataset only contained revenue information. When I asked for clarification on cost components, they told me to examine the column names. After observing me struggle for a bit, they finally admitted that they had misspoke and that we could only work with the revenue data given. It really felt like they were improvising and weren't familiar with the sample dataset they chose. Based on my experience with SQL screens, this was far from the usual level of vagueness you might encounter.
- What do you seek in your next position?
Technical Recruiter
The interview process was great! I felt well-prepared and communication throughout the process was awesome. My recruiter prepared me for all my interviews by giving me pointers about the individuals I would meet on the panel and high-level around the questions they would be asking me. Throughout the interviews, the interview panel was also very engaging and the interviews were conversational. I was very impressed by the overall candidate experience.
- Can you share an instance where you had a disagreement with a hiring manager? What was the conflict about, how did you approach it, and what was the resolution?
Paid Social Manager
Completed an assignment and then had 5 interviews. The whole process was good, they were really communicative and I got positive feedback from the team members. Then I got a generic rejection email. They didn't give any feedback or reasoning. I emailed them 3 times asking for feedback and got no reply. Not upset, just disappointed by how unprofessional it was. Be polite; learn from this.
- Excel exercise was given as part of the assignment.
- A questionnaire was also part of the assignment.
