First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Steiner Leisure.
SPA Therapist
It was a group interview. We started with a test of knowledge in our area of expertise. For trained therapists, this means knowing about electrical body treatments for beauty. Then, there was a practical trade test where we had to massage our partner's back, focusing on using our arms. This is easier for experienced therapists, but if you're fresh out of college, you'll need to learn forearm techniques. Finally, we had to sell a product in front of the group. They were looking for confidence in public speaking, not necessarily selling skill.
- What is your experience level?
Spa Manager
The typical path to becoming a Spa Manager here often starts with being a fitness instructor, as promotions to this role are usually handled internally. Your on-the-job experience, especially your ability to sell products, is key. Hiring is usually done in London, England. You'll typically go through about 3-4 weeks of unpaid training before being assigned to a ship. Once you have your ship assignment, you'll travel to the city where it's located, possibly staying overnight if needed while waiting for the ship. Upon arrival and boarding the ship, you'll start working right away.
- Given that this is a group interview, be prepared for several unexpected personality tests.
Massage Therapist
You can apply online. You must have at least 6 to 8 months of recent experience with massage and be able to perform Swedish and deep tissue. You must have basic English communication skills. Once hired, you must be trained in basic sea survival training and be willing to work for an 8-month contract.
- What is the duration of your experience?
- Would you be open to working abroad?
- Can you be trained according to Steiner Standard protocols?
Beauty Therapist
The interview was easy and straightforward. It involved discussing my strengths and weaknesses in relation to the position. We also had to do a practical demonstration, and then questions were asked to test my knowledge.
- What are your strengths?
- Tell us about yourself.
- What are your weaknesses?
