Applied for the Data Scientist role. Had a recruiter screening call (20-30 mins) about my experience, if I'm interested, sponsorship, and pay expectations. Then I interviewed with a senior Data Science exec. After that, it was a team panel with 3 parts. Part 1 was technical data science questions with 2 data scientists and a BI analyst. Part 2 was a casual chat about cultural fit with 3 BI analysts. Part 3 was a super thorough interview with senior leaders. Got rejected after the final round. The reason given was that the senior leaders were looking for folks with 5+ years of experience, which didn't quite match my background. My advice is to really double-check the resumes to make sure candidates have the required years of experience before moving them forward, so everyone's on the same page.

Drove 1 1/2 hours to Bellevue for an interview. Upon arrival, two front desk people weren't communicating, causing me to wait past my scheduled time. I informed the second person I was there for an interview, but she dismissively told me to go to window 5. The panel seemed immature, mentioning they were hungry, and one person even walked out mid-conversation before cutting the interview short. Despite this frustrating experience, I was moved to the next stage in Tacoma, only to have that interview canceled the day before due to 'budget constraints,' suggesting they didn't intend to hire me. The recruiter was unhelpful. I won't apply for state jobs again.

The application, testing, and interview steps were pretty standard. It was a panel interview with two supervisors and one team member. The interview itself felt like a typical government job interview. They give you the questions on paper and the panelists just take notes while you talk. There were no follow-up questions, it was like a one-way conversation. The panelists didn't show much emotion and there was hardly any normal conversation. It's kind of strange because this job doesn't pay much, but they still check all three of your references and interview them too.
