First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at State of Vermont.
Environmental Analyst
Had a phone call to set up the interview. Then a video interview with 3 people. They asked 18 questions, mostly about behavior, but they really wanted to know about my experience with regulations and big projects. It was a bad experience overall, and HR never responded.
- What are your computational skills?
Project Manager
The hiring manager called me directly to set up an interview. It was a panel interview with 5 people, and they read standard behavioral questions from a script while typing my answers. The next interview was a more casual chat with the director and hiring manager about my past experience.
- Can you describe your experience with energy audits and energy efficiency projects?
Correctional Officer
I went to a job fair and had a 2 person panel interview that lasted about 20 minutes. They discussed my resume and the job duties, including overtime, which was appealing due to the earning potential. I got a call back with a job offer a few hours later and accepted, and they informed me about the academy start date. It was a pretty easy interview, considering I only had two years of experience as a Transportation Security Officer.
- What motivates your desire to become a correctional officer?
- How would you handle a fight occurring within your unit?
Consultant
we had an initial video call with the supervisor, an assistant librarian, and a consulting board member. then for the second interview, i met with the State Librarian, the initial interview team, other librarians on the Consultant team and direct reports. it also involved a short presentation.
- Tell me about your administrative experience.
- How do you handle difficult employees?
- Describe your strategy for establishing relationships with external and governmental entities.
