Behavioral Presentation

I had a standardized interview with a panel of two people. It lasted about 45 minutes and they used predetermined questions and a grading system. After that, I had to complete a written assignment where I had to draft a documented counseling recommendation for management. They mentioned the department is very understaffed and the work would involve catching up on a backlog. I wasn't offered the job, but I probably wouldn't have taken it anyway.

It was a panel interview with three people. Each person had about four pages of questions related to the job. It was a very structured interview. One person would ask the questions and the others would write down the answers.

Behavioral Presentation

I applied for the 2026 legislative session in December 2025. I had an interview with the PR department, which involved standard questions and led to a second interview. In January 2026, I interviewed with Senator Fevella. His assistant called to schedule the interview and mentioned I could start the next day. During the interview, the Senator and I had an extensive discussion about the homeless crisis, and he showed awareness of the issue from both non-profit and homeless perspectives. He also offered to introduce me to a board member of my previous employer. I followed up with an email to his office, but didn't receive a response. I think these types of interactions could be improved with simple steps, like using software to send encouraging emails to candidates and updating people on public office initiatives to gain support.

The State of Hawaii's job postings are confusing. I applied for a trainee position (SR-16), but the requirements asked for 6 months of experience in the job I was applying to be a trainee for. HR gets lots of applications, but it would be better if they went to department heads who could better tell if someone would be a good fit. Instead, one person (Ms. Chock) checks your resume against a checklist, and if it doesn't EXACTLY match, you're marked ineligible.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • My resume didn't show I had the experience to become a trainee Land Agent.
