First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at State of Florida.
Administrative Assistant
The interview was on Zoom and went for about 30 mins. It was pretty easy, just one round. They asked me about my background with scheduling and taking notes in a hearing. It felt more like a chat than an interview, no pressure. We also talked about salary and expectations.
- Can you tell me about your background and experience?
- Describe your experience with scheduling and note-taking during hearings.
Project Manager
First you submit your resume. Then you wait a few weeks to see if they call you back. If they do, you get a phone interview. After that, you wait several more weeks for another call back. If you're lucky, you get an offer, but it's usually lower than the national standard. Then you wait several more weeks for the start date. Once you start, you might find the job isn't what the description said because all Florida govt positions have canned job descriptions. You might be unhappy for a few years before starting the whole process over.
- Could you tell me about your best trait?
- And what would you say is your worst trait?
Government Analyst
I applied for the job through the People First Website. They had me take a written test, and right after that, they emailed me the same day to schedule an interview for the next week. It's been 3 weeks now, and I haven't heard anything back from them, no calls or emails.
- Could you share something about yourself that isn't on your resume?
- How do you define the role of a supervisor?
- Describe a challenging task you've completed.
Biologist
Had nice chats with the main hiring manager, who was really helpful and gave me all the info I needed. She also pointed me to the newest Management Plan. The actual interview involved a set of questions from the lead Biologist and two other people.
- Could you describe your familiarity with the land types specific to this region?
- What is your understanding of the local flora?
- Can you discuss your knowledge of the local fauna?
