It was a panel interview with three people who took turns asking questions. They wrote down my answers, so it wasn't much of a conversation. I was given the questions to review during the interview, so I didn't need to ask for clarification.

The interview experience was really bad. I was interviewing for a position at DHSS and the interviewers didn't seem motivated at all. They looked like they were forced to be there, like they were having a midlife crisis. They read 10 scripted questions in a monotone voice and made weird poses between questions. There were no follow up questions, no smiling, no nodding, and no expanding on anything. It was so uncomfortable that I wanted to end the interview in two minutes. I should have hung up on them in the first five minutes. They also looked confused the entire time.

The first interview was in-person and lasted for one round. It was a panel of three people. The job itself was significantly different from the one I applied for, suggesting they hadn't thoroughly reviewed my application. This made the entire experience feel like a waste of time and money, especially considering the six-hour drive. Adding to the discomfort, the person who escorted me into the interview room questioned my mask-wearing and asked about medical conditions, which felt inappropriate and potentially illegal, especially when I was following their stated instructions about masks.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • The questions asked were specific to the knowledge of a seasoned paramedic or medical professional in Delaware, which I am not.

I applied online on the State of Delaware website and was contacted two weeks later to set up a telephone interview. The online application was pretty concise, gave a broad view of what was expected, but was different from what the job was described to be once the interview began. So essentially, do not rely on the questions posed in the online screening. I was told that the position was more about overseeing procedures as well as policy development which is right up my ally so I'm excited and I was also told that I would be contacted again in two weeks for a second interview.
