So, friendly bunch. I applied to transition into a government job. I was called and emailed to set up an initial interview. I missed the first call, so they emailed me asking if I could call them back. In the email, they mentioned they wanted to schedule the first round interview over the phone. After I emailed back asking for available times, they called me almost immediately. After setting up the initial interview, the manager sent a 40 page job description. I skimmed it and thought I might be a good fit. What wasn't clear was that the application was a 3rd party one, not built by the state. This realization made me understand the role wasn't a great fit. The interview was straightforward, asking about background and interests. The problems I'd potentially solve weren't very interesting to me. They mentioned being understaffed and seemed stuck in the 90s/2000s. I wish them the best in modernizing.

They were quick to get back and set up the interview (within 2 days of the posting closing). I got a call back about 2 days after the interview. It was a panel of 3 current employees in the department. Each person had 6 questions. One panel member had internet issues and couldn't show their face or ask their questions, so another person took over their questions. I got the feeling they already had someone picked and were just doing their due diligence.
