First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at State Farm.
Account Manager
So, the interview process for an Account Manager usually kicks off with a review of your resume. Then there's a quick phone chat to go over your background and why you're keen on the job. If that goes well, you'll have a first interview where they'll check out your client management skills, sales chops, and how you solve problems. Sometimes, they'll throw in a case study or a practical exercise to see your account management skills in action. The final chat is usually with higher-ups to gauge your strategic thinking, how well you'd fit in, and your leadership potential. After all that, they'll make an offer and you can negotiate.
- What motivates you to seek this particular position?
Account Manager
I had a phone screen with an external agent. They didn't ask me why I wanted to work for State Farm. The interviewer was very direct. If I hesitated, they would just be silent until I said more. Before the interview, I had to take a verbal/quantitative test and a 'sales and leadership' test. The sales and leadership one had questions where I had to rate my agreement with statements, some of which sounded like they were from mental health evaluations for anxiety, ADHD, and mood disorders. A few questions on this test did ask about sales or leadership situations, though.
- On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your positivity?
- What does your support network look like, and who would you turn to for advice if something went wrong?
- Can you describe yourself in five words?
Account Manager
The hiring process involved an online assessment, a phone interview, and a face-to-face meeting. It was a very relaxed process. The local agent talked about goals, processes, and an action plan for the agency. Given my 15 years in the industry, I was ready for the interview and knew what the agent would be looking for.
- In what ways can your experience contribute to the growth of this agency?
