Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Starwood Capital.
Associate
It was a simple first-round interview that focused on my resume, past deals I'd worked on, how I handle pressure, and what makes me stand out from others.
- Can you introduce yourself and walk me through the deals you've worked on?
- Tell me about your work ethic.
- What is it that sets you apart from others?
Associate
The recruiter started asking about personal experiences with racism, which felt intrusive. I tried to change the subject, but they kept pushing, making me uncomfortable and frustrated. It made me question the company culture and their professionalism due to the lack of sensitivity.
- What was the reason you left your previous employment?
Associate
The process took a while, maybe a few weeks to a few months. I met with pretty much everyone on the team. Some interviews were behavioral, and others involved discussing past deals I worked on. The team seemed really nice, it was just a long process though.
- Can you discuss your previous deals?
- What was your specific involvement in those deals, and what were your thoughts on them?
