Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Starwood Capital.
Staff Accountant
It began with a recruiter screening, then an in-person meeting with three senior staff who mostly described the company culture. After that, I had a challenging take-home personality and IQ test. The last interview was with a different accounting manager, and again, they did most of the talking.
- Can you explain how to record a journal entry when an asset's value increases?
Accountant
It was an interactive and interesting interview. They explained the job responsibilities and company package really well. We had enough time to ask questions from each other, and the interview felt very open and comfortable.
- Can you tell me about your previous work experience?
Fund Accountant
The interview process was a single super day. I met with three people from the fund accounting team, each for around 30-45 minutes. The interviews were mostly behavioral, with just a few technical accounting questions thrown in. It wasn't too challenging overall.
- Tell me about yourself and your experience.
- Describe a time you faced a challenging accounting problem and how you solved it.
- What are the key principles of fund accounting?
