First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Stark State College of Technology.
Academic Counselor
I had a basic interview for an Academic Counselor role, but unfortunately, I didn't get the job. I don't think I was well-prepared for it. They had me sit in a conference room in the back. I met with all the current advising staff and the director. Everyone seemed friendly, but the questions were tough. I kind of knew right away I wasn't what they were looking for.
- Tell me about the toughest student situation you've faced and how you handled it.
Biology Lab Technician
The interview for this role was really thorough because the job involves showing students how to observe human anatomy and physiology by dissecting cadavers. The process had three parts: first, a pre-recorded virtual interview. Second, a panel interview with department staff and a lab practical. Third, a panel interview with department heads. Everyone was professional and nice.
- What would you do if a student was caught filming or taking pictures during a human cadaver dissection, which is not allowed?
Programme Analyst
I spoke with six different people, all of whom seemed really good at what they do. They showed me three SQL problems and I had to figure them out. We also chatted about the job and what they were looking for. It took about two months for them to let me know what happened. They were a bit unsure about the university sponsorship situation. I did go through a background check. I almost thought I wouldn't hear back, but then they called to ask about my visa status, which honestly they should have checked earlier. About two weeks after that call, I got an email saying I didn't get the job. It would've been way better if they'd sorted out the visa thing from the start and not made me go through all the interviews and background checks.
- If a report had an issue, how would you go about fixing it?
- What's your approach if you get a work call with a task outside of your normal hours?
Project Coordinator
About a week after I applied, I got invited to do a pre-recorded phone interview. I had to fill out an online form and give my phone number. The application then called me, and I answered five pre-recorded questions. I couldn't ask any questions and didn't get any follow-up info. I had to email HR a week later to see if I was moving on. The response from HR saying they moved on with another candidate was the first time I spoke to a real person. I really think Stark State should stop using pre-recorded interviews if they want to show they care about applicants.
- Can you tell me what you know about Stark State Technical College?
