First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Starcity.
Operations Specialist
The whole process was super fast, took about three weeks from the first contact to the offer. It started with a recruiter chat, then a call with the hiring manager, followed by a project assignment which included two writing parts. The final stage was an onsite interview where I met five team members, and I even got to meet the CEO. It was a really professional experience overall.

Visual Designer
The whole process took about three weeks, starting with an initial phone screen with the hiring manager, followed by a second phone screen with a higher-up from HR. The interviewer was rude and condescending, talking down to me like a child and diminishing my experience to fit her own narrative. It was a very strange phone screen where the interviewer kept bragging about a recent employee getting an offer and how grateful she was to give it, even mentioning the salary in an arrogant way, implying people would beg for a job here. She also bragged about her own years of experience, which seemed irrelevant to the interview. Overall, it was a condescending, rude, and unnecessary interview, especially for a phone screen, from someone who should have known better. It's a huge red flag about the toxic culture at this small startup.
- What is your motivation for seeking employment at Starcity?
Member Experience Manager
I got a follow-up after my 11/11/18 review. A new talent manager recruiter emailed about other jobs I applied for. I was never told about them by the previous recruiter. I had a 40-minute phone interview and moved to a second phone interview. The recruiter said if the second phone interview went well, I'd meet the onsite team that same day. The next day, I got an email saying they decided not to move forward. They said they'd contact me if another position better fit my skills. I only applied for jobs related to my skills and current career, but apparently 12 years of excellent customer service isn't a preferred skill set here.
- They didn’t ask normal interview questions, but rather tried to get a feel for you as a person and your responses in certain instances.
Community Manager
I reached out online and they got back to me. First, there was a phone screen, then a local in-person meeting, and finally an on-site interview. It was one of the best interview processes I've been through. They really seemed to want to get to know me as a person and what I could bring to the company. Even though I didn't get hired for that specific role, they offered me a consultant position for a different project where they thought my skills would be a better fit, so it ended up working out.
