Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Staples.
Software Engineer
The interview process wasn't heavily technical; it mostly involved behavioral questions, including STAR method scenarios, and discussions about my past projects. I have experience with C, so they asked me about my work in that language and how I've utilized it previously. Overall, it was a really good experience.
- Can you explain the concepts of caching and memory management in C?
- Tell me about your experience working with the C programming language.
- Describe instances where you have applied your knowledge of C in previous projects.
Software Engineer
It was a 3-week process that took less than a month. First, a recruiter screen, then an interview with a Senior SWE, and finally the hiring manager and director. We mostly talked about my resume, my technical background, and some behavioral and technical questions.
- Were you experienced with AWS?
- An interviewer made a rude comment and criticized my questions.
Software Engineer
After applying, I was contacted by a recruiter and scheduled for a 30-minute video interview with a software engineer. However, the recruiter rescheduled it for two days later via email, just 30 minutes before the original time. During the rescheduled interview, the interviewer kept their camera off and had a strong accent, making it hard to understand them. They asked about my previous work and tried to quiz me on it, but the questions lacked context. The interviewer then spent 20 minutes explaining a game and asked me to code it. They also mentioned the interview would run for another hour, despite the initial 30-minute expectation.
- Can you discuss your educational background and prior work history?
- Please write the code for the game that was just described to me.
