I had a good initial chat with the outsourced sourcer and recruiter who were very professional. Things went downhill when I interviewed with the CEO. I'd heard about long meetings, but this was something else. It was almost 3 hours of the CEO talking, mostly about himself. The questions weren't very valuable; it felt more like a company history lesson and a sales pitch about his personal successes, seemingly at the expense of his employees. He took all the credit for successes but blamed others for challenges. As an experienced turnaround executive, I'm not sure this company can be fixed. Honestly, I think I dodged a bullet.

I found this job on Glassdoor.com and got an interview pretty fast. They sent me some company samples to check out, but I had to search for the email because my server thought it was spam. During the interview, the interviewer was really negative about the company, its benefits, and the general work environment. They mentioned an optional skills review, phrasing it like 'if you have time, would you like to perform.' There were also major printer issues in the office. I left feeling that even if they offered me the job, I wouldn't take it.

So first, you'd meet with the Store managers. It's about an hour long chat. If they like you, you then move on to HR for the next part of the hiring process. During the initial meeting, they'll go over what the job involves and how the store runs. They also stress how important it is for everyone to work together and help each other out.

There are typically two interviews for this role. The first is with the store manager, and the second is with either the general manager, the HR department, or possibly both. They used to be quite selective, but they've lowered their standards and are now hiring more people who are content with an hourly wage. Training is minimal, even though they claim they offer it. Usually, existing sales staff help out the new hires.
