It was a pretty standard interview process. Everyone I interacted with was friendly and asked questions that were relevant to the role. Unfortunately, I didn't end up getting the job, but I still felt the process was fair. I was hoping to get the position.

So first there was this quick multiple choice test, then I spoke with the hiring manager directly, bypassing the recruiter call which felt a bit off. The interview with the hiring manager was supposed to be 30 minutes but went for an hour, and it became clear they weren't really sure what they needed since they hadn't had a QA role before and seemed to not know much about QA methodologies. The position felt pretty undefined because of this. Even though it was a bit of a mess, it was still a nice conversation and I wish them luck as they figure things out and define the role. After that, there was a take-home challenge, then a video call with 2-3 team members, and finally another video call before the offer.

I applied online and left the salary information blank, as I like to know more about the position and the company before throwing a number to the wind. Someone from the company followed up by email saying they received my information, but asked about my desired salary. When I said I'd like to learn more about the position and asked for the range, she mentioned they don't have a range and it's based on experience and that I'd need to talk to the VP. When I was talking to the VP, he didn't seem very kind. My experience seemed undermined and like he was trying to prove me wrong or show that I didn't have experience. I didn't like that. What really threw me for a loop was that the VP mentioned that they have to monitor performance on a constant basis, including nights and weekends. He said "you're probably used to that though". I told him that wasn't something I was interested in, and that ended the interview.

I had a phone interview, then a take-home test, and then a 2-hour in-person interview. During the in-person, I met with 7 different people, sometimes two at once. After that, I followed up twice but still haven't heard back after 5 weeks since the interview. It'd be nice to get some info instead of being left hanging for so long.
