First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at St. Jude Medical.
Engineering Co-Op
I talked to a recruiter from St. Jude Medical at my school's career fair. Got an email a week later asking what kind of co-op I was looking for. Then, about two weeks after that, the recruiter set up a phone interview with some engineers.
- Could you tell me about the projects and experiences on your resume?
Product Engineer
It was a 3 interview process: first a phone call with the recruiter, then a phone call with the manager, and finally a full day in-person interview in Sylmar, CA with 6 team members and the manager. They also asked me to give them a technical interview on any topic I choose. Overall, the interview was pretty basic, focusing on my experience and how I'd handle certain situations. Nothing too intense; they really emphasized projects and past experience.
- Can you tell me about your biggest weakness and your greatest strength?
- What is your understanding of this role and our product offerings?
- Can you discuss your programming skills and database knowledge?
Product Engineer
I interviewed with managers in the CRMD department all in one day. It was 9 back-to-back half-hour interviews with no breaks, plus a presentation to the main boss. Out of more than 200 applicants, only two of us were interviewed. I followed up a week later and got good feedback. Then, within two days, I got the offer.
- Could you construct a robotic mechanism, detailing functional requirements and degrees of freedom?
- Then, formulate the dynamic equations for this mechanism.
- What materials would you select for its construction?
