First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at St. Edward's.
Director
The summer interview process included a walking tour of campus. I felt uncomfortable due to the scarcity of air-conditioned spaces. The campus was large with old buildings, and not much was happening during the summer.
- How would you handle managing difficult individuals?
Career Coach
So it was a five-round process. First, there was a screening call. Then I had to create and send over a 5-10 minute recorded presentation on any topic. After that, it was all in a row: an interview with the career staff, then an interview with campus partners, and finally, an interview with the director.
- Can you tell me about your strengths and weaknesses?
- Describe how you would manage a challenging conversation with a student.
- What is your experience with the topics covered by partner offices, such as disability issues?
Advisor
I worked as a student for several years, and after graduating, I was asked if I'd be interested in the position. Many people are hired this way, and several of my colleagues who have been employed for decades started working right after they graduated. If you're a student worker and you're considering working at SEU, you should treat your work-study job as you would any real-world job – show up on time, stay focused, and avoid reading or doing homework. Even if you don't get the job you initially want, it's much easier to move into a better position within the university once you've established yourself.
- Why do you think you are a good fit for this job?
Student Worker
I applied online and it was pretty quick. About a week after that, I had an interview for the three jobs I applied for. The interview was about 20 minutes long, and it was just me being interviewed. It felt a bit intimidating with 2-3 people asking questions, but the interviewers were really nice. They genuinely want to get to know you and really seem to like personable people. Just be yourself!
- Can you share some past experiences that have prepared you for these roles you applied for?
