The hiring process involved submitting an application and then having an interview. Since I had already graduated from the same program I was applying to work for, I was already familiar with most of the faculty, and they were aware of my work ethic and abilities. It was a great place to work! The tech support was really helpful whenever I ran into technical issues during my lectures (which was usually due to my own lack of skill rather than the technology itself, haha!).

Started with an initial phone chat. Then had a full day of interviews on campus. They have a tight travel budget (you pay first, then get reimbursed), and it's a long way from any big airport. Met with the Dean, search committee, and some students. Had to give a presentation that everyone on campus was invited to. Weirdly, most of the search committee didn't make it to most of the day because of 'conflicts'? The search chair seemed really disorganized and everything felt last-minute. Students mentioned they only found out about the interview the day before. The Dean was kinda flippant and asked super vague, policy-heavy questions that didn't really relate to me at all.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • The Dean asked how my research fits with the strategic plan, which was strange because the plan hadn't even been written or shared with the school yet.

The interview process was terrible. It seemed like the current administration was prioritizing hiring individuals from racial minority groups over actual competency. They would apparently cancel a search if no minorities applied, even if there were qualified candidates. High-level administration is involved in these discriminatory hiring practices.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • Can you discuss your thoughts on issues related to race?
  • What experience do you have with social justice efforts?

It was a sit down interview, pretty simple. They wanted to get to know me, my previous work, how I interact with all types of folks, and how I handle working under stress. They also mentioned a thirty-word section on the hiring and interview process, but it was mostly just words.

Confirmed questions3 questions
  • Do you have any previous experience?
  • Can you describe your experience interacting with various people?
  • How do you perform when working under pressure?
